Driveway Tips

10 Things to know about your new driveway
  1. The liquid asphalt in blacktop needs time to harden and cure. This usually takes 6-12 months.
  2. Your new asphalt will soften and harden as temperatures change.
  3. Asphalt is scarred by automobiles starting and stopping too fast and turning the steering wheel when the car is not moving.
  4. Try not to park in the same spot for 6-12 months.
  5. Avoid using jack stands or car ramps.
  6. Excessive weight from large heavy vehicles can depress your new asphalt.
  7. Bicycle and motorcycle kickstands can sink through your asphalt.  Same with high heels and lawn chairs.
  8. The edge of your driveway is the weakest part of your driveway due to lack of support. We suggest backing up the edges with loam or gravel.
  9. Asphalt has various sizes of stone, sand, liquid asphalt and other ingredients, which causes a varied texture of the surface.
  10. To preserve your new driveway we suggest that it be sealed in 3-12 months. Asphalt is porous so over time, water can seep in through the asphalt and cause deterioration.
